Goth is another one of those rare series that I actually really liked. I’m guessing it’s because it’s nowhere near shoujo.

So, Goth tells the tale of a couple of high school students. Which seems pretty normal at first, but you quickly start to realize that both of them are batshit insane, even though no one else in the series seems to notice.

He seemed kind of normal, too, until he was trying to carve your innards out with a linoleum knife.

The story starts out with Itsuki Kamiyama explaining his fascination with his classmate, Yoru Morino, who has what appears to be a suicide scar on her wrist. He later discovers that his teacher is some sort of psychopath that chops off people’s hands and steals them. So, like a good samaritan, he sneaks into the teacher’s house, steals all the hands, and leaves evidence incriminating Yoru Morino in hopes that his teacher will chop off her hands so that he can have them. Yoru bashes his skull in with a stool, and he gets arrested, so the plan doesn’t come to fruition, but the two are then brought together by their love of dark, spooky, murder-related shit, And Kamiyama dreams of how to murder her himself.

BFFs!

Anyhow, as I mentioned before, they love stuff related to murder, and they’re also really nosy, especially Kamiyama. So, they go poking around in people’s shit like the Asian hardy boys. Or more like Yoru gets assaulted/kidnapped and then Kamiyama solves the mystery and rescues her. But they kind of don’t give a shit, so, well, justice is served in these cases about as much as it was in Jawbreaker.

In any case, this is a oneshot, so after a couple of disturbing mysteries comes a more complicated and important one. It’s basically just the fact that Yoru is actually Yu, because when she and her twin sister Yoru were little They were trying to fake-hang Yoru but they ended up real-hanging her and she died. Yoru gets kidnapped a final time, chloroformed, you get to see her boobs, and Kamiyama gets in a knife fight with another boy who looks kind of similar to him, kills him, and buries him in a field. Later, Kamiyama tells Yoru that he totally didn’t kill that guy, even though he totally did, and makes this rather casual offer:

Please?

So, basically, “Hey, lemme kill you sometime, if that’s alright with you.” I would say she seemed pretty cool with that, but the next page just has her crying in front of a window, and “THE END,” so I’m not sure if she was actually thinking about taking him up on that offer or what.
Because suicide is always the right answer!

And here we are, at the least obscure title I’ve had the pleasure of viewing yet.

Skip Beat begins with the Cinderella-esque plight of Kyoko Mogami. She’s one of the many crazed fans of teen idol Sho Fuwa. But wait! She has the gracious honor of being one of the first, seeing as how they grew up together, dropped out of high school together, and live together! So she basically has the same plight as the early practitioners of “the game,” and the premise is similar: no one wins.

Damn you, anon.

Except, of course, for Sho, whom Kyoko discovers has been using her as a maid/meal ticket while he screws other, more attractive girls. Kyoko, of course, is offended by this, but decides that, hey, love at her age(16) is an uncertain thing, and there are more fish waiting for her somewhere out there. She then goes back to school and learns the rest of the normal life lessons, and goes on to have a fulfilling and well-paying career in accounting, then meets a humble janitor who teaches her what love truly means.

Oh, wait, no, she decides that she will enter show business for the sole purpose of becoming a more popular star than him. Uh, am I missing something? Spending an obscene amount of time becoming a national icon in order to reach a point that’s never exactly definite just for the purpose of looking down on a guy you dated in high school and saying, “hey, I’m doing better than you.”? A little petty, isn’t it? If she wanted to make a point she could have at least murdered him. If everyone with some personal beef with a famous person just tried to outdo them, then nothing interesting would ever happen.

Also Mark Chapman and the Little People would be playing at a basement near you.

So she goes to a talent agency called LME, where she meets Sho’s rival in the business, Ren Tsuruga, also known to the fanbase of the series as “ultra sexy super hawt giraffe (alright, so I added ‘giraffe’)” Eventually, Kyoko begs her way into an audition, where she is rejected by the owner of the company, who appears to be a schizophrenic hispanic man. He actually does let Kyoko into the company, but says she failed the audition because she is missing “love.” He proceeds to spew some shit about how how you can only be an star if you want people to love you. Which is bullshit, because Lindsay Lohan doesn’t give a fuck and she’s still got coke money.

Anyhow, the owner allows her to join a new “special” section of the company that he pulls out of his ass, called the Love Me section, where the members, terrible human beings that they are, apparently learn to get love. This is just a front for the owner to have a poorly-paid janitorial staff that does whatever the fuck he wants when they aren’t polishing the floors with their tongues, but they seem to buy it, and be perfectly satisfied with their positions. Besides that, there are apparently only two talent agencies in Japan, and Sho works at one, so she can hardly go there, though it would provide her with much better means of comparing herself to him, and possibly a chance to get him fired, but, y’know, whatever. Shoujo heroines don’t exactly have lots of brain cells, so that whole thinking thing gets to be a nuisance. So, Kyoko starts off her career doing physical labor to earn stamps while wearing a shitty pink jumpsuit.

While the boss is away somewhere laughing his ass off, Kyoko manages to become a legitimate actor and Ren Tsuruga VERY SURPRISINGLY! ends up falling in love with her. But Ren Tsuruga isn’t any ordinary male shoujo lead– Oh wait, yes he is. He has one of those super-angsty, undisclosed backstories chock full of doom and darkness, which he just has to bring into the series. He could be a man and make an honest attempt to get some, but he decides that he won’t, because he “doesn’t deserve to be happy.”

Seriously? No one acts that way in real life. People may think that occasionally, but not all the damn time. And if you do, congratulations! That’s called severe depression! Go see a therapist. Besides that, Kyoko’s IQ scales in at a whopping 70, so she never even notices. Which leads us to the entire series, in a nutshell. Kyoko unintentionally entices Ren, Ren desperately hides his boner, Kyoko gains insight about acting, rinse, repeat. Which wouldn’t be too bad, if there weren’t already over 150 damn chapters of this, and STILL GOING. If this weren’t so blatantly shoujo, I would foresee a brutal rape scene in the future. Hell, maybe there will still be one.

So it all comes down to the question, “When are they going to do it?” and the unambiguous answer is likely to be, “NEVER.”

After School Nightmare kicks off with a young man taking a shower. Always a good start.

The protagonist is apparently encountering a case of missing nipples as well

Uh… Or not.

This series follows Ichijo Mashiro, a teenager who’s pretty much a normal student, except for the part where he’s a dude up top and all woman downstairs. That’s right: he has a vagina. Naturally, this is causing him all sorts of unique confusion. Then, one day, the sexy school nurse sidles on up to him and informs him that he needs to take a “special class” in her office on Thursdays– or else he can’t graduate.

And by "special class" she means sex

Uh-huh. Right. So, Mashiro, like any student threatened with being stuck in goddamn high school,  shows up on Thursday to see what the nurse has in store for him. She instructs him to sleep in a bed, which he does, and thus begins his experience in a mystical dream world beyond reality, where other students are present and their inner turmoil manifests itself in their physical appearances. Mashiro is then shocked to find himself dressed as a girl. Imagine that! A person with a vagina being a girl! Crazy!

By the looks of the dream world, the class only seems to be for people who are seriously fucked-up, because everyone there is, well, seriously fucked-up. If you find the special key, you can graduate from the school, and you get that key by forcibly tearing it out of one of the other students’ bodies. In fact, most of the time, it seems like they don’t even give two shits about the keys, because they spend the majority of their time horribly murdering each other, and usually anyone who finds a key ignores it anyhow. Mashiro is literally handed a key at the beginning of the series and decides not to use it for some reason or another.

But it’s not all bad–Mashiro happens to meet a girl named Kureha in the first dream. She, as a past rape victim, hates men bitterly, and after horribly slaughtering Mashiro in the dream, they meet in real life and become friends. And then they start dating, with the excuse that Kureha is comfortable dating a man with lady parts. Man, I wish that worked in real life. You could just substitute foreplay with beating your partner with a lead pipe.

Romance!

So, the whole series basically focuses on Mashiro’s decisions, or lack thereof. All while he’s dating a chick, a guy, Sou (who also happens to be in the special classes), shows up and attempts to court him. So then Mashiro gets stuck in a little crisis over whether he wants to be a boy or a girl. The decision turns out to be pretty easy, since his girlfriend breaks up with him, accusing him of using her to make him feel more like a man.

So, hey, whatever, protagonist can just be with other romantic interest, right? Uh, well, remember what I said about everyone taking the special classes being upfucked? About this point, you realize Sou almost seems too normal… Oh wait, nevermind, he’s banging his sister. Except he’s not actually banging his sister, because she’s a hallucination. What?

Uh, okay, whatever. somehow, Mashiro and Sou and up together in the end. And they all live happily ever after! Right?
Eh, not quite.

First, somewhere in the story, everyone starts to make some realizations:No one can remember anyone who graduated, anyone who skips class for three days disappears, and no one seems to know what the hell is going on at this school, or how they even got there in the first place. So, with all these things in mind, Mashiro decides that he-… well, I guess it’s more of a she now- wants to graduate. She manages to get a key, but all of a sudden the universe starts collapsing, and all the others can do is hold hands and hope that Mashiro will graduate. Which she does.

So, cool. Goal achieved. What now? A graduation party, perhaps?
Ha ha. No.

Her graduation results in Mashiro’s mother (who looks exactly like the sexy nurse) not dying in a hospital fire… Which in turn allows her to be born in the real world as a new person. Supposedly whichever gender she picked in the end would be that of one surviving twin. That by itself makes enough sense, but then, what the hell were the other issues, like coping with childhood rape and having imaginary sex with your sister supposed to represent?

Anyhow, so theoretically, since the world seemed to represent the unborn children in the hospital, and the hospital kind of burned down, one would assume that anyone who didn’t graduate pretty much died, right?
Actually, while walking down the sidewalk complaining about her personality flaws, she bumps into a guy that looks just like Sou. Implying that he somehow ended up being born… Even though he didn’t? Because, I mean, he totally… Kind of didn’t graduate?

So, Basara is a lovely little epic set in future Japan, where something has apparently gone very wrong, and everything seems to be back to the dark ages. The royalty is oppressing everyone, some prophet predicts a “child of destiny,” yada yada…

So that brings us to a backwoods little desert village, where Sarasa, twin sister of said “child of destiny,” Tatara, resides. She’s basically been having a bad time because everyone loves her brother and doesn’t care so much about her. One day, the red king strolls into town and chops her brother’s head off, which understandably upsets the people, and so Sarasa nuts up and assumes his position, from that point on pretending to be him. She leads the people to battle and stuff with the red king, and the whole thing looks like it’ll be over rather quickly, but then Sarasa realizes she’s been too hasty with the whole thing, everyone falls down a chasm, and the majority of the villagers die. After this, Sarasa realizes the error of her ways, and begins her epic cross-country adventure to rally support and defeat the red king once and for all.

BUT, it just so happens that right before the horrible defeat, she went to a secluded hot spring, where she bumped into the red king without realizing it, and they start crushing on each other. Every so often afterwards, they always seem to run into one another, and so without even realizing the irony of the situation, they fall deeply in love and shit (needless to say, this kind of takes something out of the big decisive battle later). So Sarasa, assuming the guise of Tatara, is going around, and building up a huge army to kill her boyfriend, basically.

There are a lot of cooky and unique characters she meets along the way. My personal favorite is Ageha, who got his eye chopped out to keep the red king from murderizing her one time when Sarasa was a little child. He seems to have basically been her bitch ever since, because I’ve pretty much lost count of the shit he’s gone through for her. The eye, and later he goes around as a masked assassin murdering nobles for her. Strangely enough, though, while he seemed to display the skillz to kill all these people, when Sarasa and Ageha get thrown in prison together and the other inmates wanna play a little grabass with Sarasa because she looks like a pretty boy, Ageha doesn’t seem to hesitate to take it in the butt for her (literally). I mean, he’s like a professional killer but he would sooner submit to buttsex than try fighting his way out? Whatever… (he must have liked it)

Buuut, also among Sarasa’s loyal cohorts are a few people who aren’t such big fans (they’ll warm up). The blue prince (evil royalty is color-coded around here) is secretly hiding out with the gang, pretending to be Sarasa’s pal, but secretly, he’s planning something DASTARDLY! Of course, since this is a shoujo manga, you know they’re going to get along in the end. Hell, some stranger could probably run up and stab her in the eye and she’d let him serve in their army (I would kill his shit). Because I fucking hate unrealistic friendliness like this, a lot of the series was sort of annoying for me. Sarasa cries ALL THE TIME too. It’s amazing no one figured out she was a chick.

Ageha should have been the hero. Seriously. IN THE BUTT. Besides that, I bet he would have been able to gather the army like way faster, since he seemed to know every person they came across. I mean, he would be chatting with people that Sarasa would kill a couple chapters later. But then would it have been a bl series? …Eh.

My stalker would have been in luck today, since I had drawn a new title AND remembered the one I had forgotten, and was planning on doing two today, but my natural enemy, a wasp, appeared in my computer room, so I was forced to hightail it downstairs to a different computer. My pretty pretty pictures all being on the other one, I just decided to draw a new one, and here we are (or maybe “here I am,” since no one reads this).

I read Zettai Kareshi, or Absolute Boyfriend wayyyy back in the day, when I read the first chapter of a shoujo series and couldn’t guess how it was going to turn out. My image search also brought to my attention what seems to be a TV drama version of the series, now in existence. I guess it’s well-known.

But anyhow, that aside, this series is by Yuu Watase. Sound familiar? That’s probably because either A) You are somewhat familiar with the shoujo manga world or B) you are one of the 2 people who read my rant on Fushigi Yuugi! Yayyy! But that also probably makes you the stalker I speak so fondly of, and that’s not really yayyy material.

Anyhow, Zettai Kareshi introduces us to a girl who is a complete and terrible sucker for the kind of crap they sell on daytime TV, because she’s a fucking idiot. Nothing new. So she happens to go online and get a trial on a boyfriend, or so the site says, and she is rather surprised when the sexy naked love slave she ordered actually arrives at her front door. He’s a love machine, baby, and she’s on the assembly line.

But of course, she has unrealistic ideals and higher morals, so she can’t just bang her man-bot. I mean, she just met the guy (even though he is a sex robot). So of course when her week-long trial comes to an end, she has had a fabulous and non-sexual time getting to know her new pal. Unfortunately, he’s going to run her like millions of dollars if she wants to keep him, so she has a chat with the all but suspicious man from the future who supplied her with him, and they agree that she’ll be a beta tester of sorts for their product.

After that, sexbot causes all sorts of nutty problems, usually related to idiotic rules about him transferring ownership when kissed, and screwing him making ownership permanent, which the heroine of course won’t do, because she’s a pure and innocent shoujo female lead.

All this while, the poor boy next door who seems to have had a crush on her since forever can only watch as all this crap unfolds, because he is the sad, dejected victim of the story.

Anyhow, so they just keep hanging out like that, until she finally develops feelings for her overgrown sex toy and they become a couple… I guess. They even buy like promise rings or some bullshit. And they really piss off the future people who made him, because they want him returned because he’s feeling feelings or something.

All of a sudden, his battery starts running on low, and when it seems like he’s just going to kick the bucket and end the series, the heroine revives him with sex. Yeah, I don’t know how the hell that’s supposed to work either, but it happens, okay?! Everyone knows true love can do anything! ANYTHING!

So they live happily ever after after that episode, right? NO! After everything’s finally looking good for them, he fucking breaks down and the neighbor gets her. I mean, I guess the moral was supposed to be that you shouldn’t get attached to a robot that’s intended for secksing, but don’t real sex toys generally last longer than a couple years? Whatever. I guess I’d just want it to last longer. It wouldn’t really have to do chores or anything useful, even. There’s only one thing I’d want in a robot that looks like a dude, really…

Well, to be honest, I drew from my jar and then threw the paper away before I had completely committed to memory what was on it, so I drew another one, which ended up being this one. Maybe someday I’ll remember what it was, not that it really bothers me either way.

Okay, so this is a Manhua (OOOooOOOhh) about a Taiwanese girl with an unpronounceable name whose mother was an awesome supermodel and whose aunt is constantly nagging her to get in the business. She sees pictures of the work of the more pronounceable Angus Lanson, who is really chinese, so that’s not his real name anyhow. She suddenly starts seeing modeling as an art form, and decides to give it a go. While living with her sweet old grandmother and attempting to become a model, she keeps having run-ins with a smart-ass hobo, who turns out to be Angus Lanson’s twin brother, Eros. Gee, that sounds like a name I’d want to give my child.

And guess who's gonna help me have that child?

So, their relationship going rather smoothly (ah ha, ah ha, I crack myself up), the chick becomes a big hit in Taiwan, meets the brother, her beloved grandmother dies, etc., etc… And then she goes international (to America), where she moves in with a transvestite and discovers that the hobo was Eros all along! But, besides that, I would have thought that my ever-present twin fetish would have kicked in, but Angus just doesn’t seem as appealing as he could be when he’s boinkin’ dudes offscreen. Speaking of dude boinkin’, there seems to be a lot of that going on around this series. Well, I guess it is the fashion industry and all, but it’s gotten to the point where I can’t even count the homosexual (or bi-curious) supporting characters on both hands. But I don’t really care about that. I mean, gays are pretty common anymore. But it does seem this is yet another series that beats around the bush a bit. Or to put it more accurately, it kind of goes bipolar on you. One minute, you think that Eros and the chick are finally going to get together, and the next, Eros is all, “I hate you, bitch, get outta my house.” Well, her problem, I guess, but I feel like a real girl would probably start looking for a different guy the first time that shit happened.

…Or get some from that skanky twin.

So, I don’t know if the author wanted the “X” to be orally included, or if they were attempting some sort of product placement, or just wanted to take a stab at being different or what, but I really hate it when “X” randomly makes an appearance in the middle of a title when a space would work just as well. I have the same issue with HunterXHunter. I mean, if you don’t say it, it sounds a lot like Sister, Sister and… Ah, I digress.

So this title (which is annoying to type) is all about a girl, who likes a guy, who likes a girl that is not the girl that likes him. Same ol’, same ol’. But WAIT! The unfortunate and unattractive girl who he doesn’t happen to have the hots for proceeds to turn to her scientist father for something that might turn her into a sexier lady, which is something that her adorable heartthrob apparently has a taste for (which of course she assumes without asking). He obliges, and she drinks the mystical magical potion she is given, only to discover that it has instead turned her into a big sexy man who has a penis instead of a vagina! OH NO!

So instead of going to a local bar to pick up hot gay dudes, she instead gets pretty pissy and gets the low-down on all this shit from her pops. Apparently, she changes back and forth depending on much stress Cutie-pants is putting on her heart, or some stupid crap like that.

Instead of going to the gay bar at this point, she once again defaults and becomes man-friends with the boy she likes, only to discover that the girl he likes is not very sexy at all, and that she totally screwed her life over for no reason. Or at least, she’s screwing herself over by not cashing in on that gay bar idea. After that, she continues to be guy-friends with her Honeybunch while hiding her true identity, running into other freakish transgender freaks along the way.

But, I mean, come on girls, if you were a sexy guy, don’t try to say you wouldn’t attempt to score all those gay dudes you always wanted but could never get because you had a uterus.

Luckily, today yields another shounen. Woo.

So, once upon a time, I was surfing around in Mangafox when I noticed that Vampire Juuji Kai had made the front page. Having already read the summary and part of the first chapter (and not liking it), I wondered what all the fuss was about. So, I picked it up again, expecting to drop it like a maid with Parkinsons’. However, upon second inspection, I actually liked it. As a matter of fact, I couldn’t seem to STOP reading (but I did eventually). So yeah, it was better than I had thought. Still not all that fond of the art, though.

So the story on this one goes that this vampire king whose name keeps getting switched from one gay name to another supposedly had his queen kidnapped, and he went to get her back, and the dudes who had her said that they’d let her go if he died, and he loved her soooo much that he was going to let himself be killed, and the queen loved him soooo much that she went apeshit and destroyed half the country with some fucked-up magic. Then she got sealed up, and only by destroying the monument marking her resting place can she be revived.

So the king destroyed what was left of his country and goes around looking for it because he still loves her sooooo much. But there are like hundreds of fakes all over the world so it’s starting to get really fucking annoying.

So, basically, the manga follows this vampire, Strauss, in his quest to revive the queen with a loli he picked up. There are, of course, people who don’t want that queen fucking shit up, so they try to get rid of him, and there is this spiritual parasite thing called the black swan that exists to stop him. When it shows up on a chick, she has seven years before she dies and it goes to someone else, and if she kills the vampire king and queen it will go away for good, so they go after the king, but he usually just kills their asses, so it’s just a huge pain in the ass for everyone involved. It gets stronger with every host, though, so theoretically, eventually, it should be able to get rid of him one day.

So basically, we learn through the course of the story that the original story about the vampire king and queen is bullshit and the earth is being invaded by aliens who are currently hanging around in a spaceship that looks like a mashed-up handful of bottlecaps. The guys trying to take down the vampire dudes switch sides sort of to get the king and queen to get rid of the aliens, and yeah, that was about as far as I got.

Kuroshitsuji is yet another delightful manga adventure I’ve been on.
BUUUUT!
This time it’s a Shounen series!
So it’s not totally gay (though I think it might have been shounen-ai).

Anyhow, this one focuses on Ciel Phantomhive, a rich orphan boy who has a toy company and an eyepatch, and his mysterious demonic butler who does everything. Ciel is always doing stuff to help the community (I’m assuming it relates to business or something), like getting rid of dudes who sell chicks on the black market and trying to kill Jack the Ripper (didn’t work out too well, by the way), and so he inevitably gets himself into shitloads of trouble, which his butler Sebastian always saves him from. Ciel also has a fucking transmutation circle on his bad eye, which has something to do with why Sebastian is his bitch.
To tell the truth, one little thing is bothering me the most about this series.

This guy’s (yeah, it is actually male) excuse for having a fucking chainsaw in 18th century England was something about him being a death god and having it custom-made, which is total bullshit. In fact, I think the guy in the picture himself just bothers me. It took me way too long to figure out that he didn’t have ovaries. And who abbreviates Sebastian as “Sebas?” That is not a nickname. That is fucking dumb.

Now that I have stopped being too lazy to recover my password, I can rant again. Yayyy.
Yeah. Fine. Don’t cheer. But I bet that one crazy stalker who makes out with my blog onscreen every other day is gonna find you.

So, anyhow, we have Hadashi de Bara wo Fume, or Stepping on Roses Barefoot, depending on your preference of long annoying Japanese titles or long annoying English titles. I happened to look into the other works of the author, Ueda Rinko, which I discovered included Ryou, a series I had read before that hadn’t been completely scanlated. I could hardly believe the author was the same, however, because the author’s style had devolved from probably shoujo to unmistakably shoujo. Seriously. The shoulder width of the average male in the series was cut in half, I swear.

Anyhow, aside from ranting about all that, This series follows Kitamura, an unfortunate peasant girl who is basically having problems because she keeps picking up three-year-old-children and because her brother is a dumb shit who gambles all the time. Seeing as how she appears to be the woman of the house, who does cooking, cleaning, chores, and so on, I really don’t see why she doesn’t just beat the shit out of her brother with a frying pan until he realizes that he should stop ruining their lives, but hey, whatever. She runs into a handsome dude on the street and he gives her money and a handkerchief, and she falls in love with him instantly because she is a shoujo heroine. After that they’re still hard up for money, so she goes to whore herself out on the street, and one of the handsome dudes shows up (not the nice one) and pays her an assload of money to marry him, which she does, and then they live together, trying hard to conform her to high society. Anyhow, so basically he only marries Sumi so that his gramps will pass ownership of his company on to him. After that, he sets to work secretly making her to seduce his friend (who is rich and important… It would help him somehow, okay?!). This wouldn’t be a problem, since it was the guy she automatically fell in love with from before, but he turns out to be totally batshit insane, so nothing ends well. Souichirou then realizes how much he actually cares for Sumi, yada yada, series continues with their blossoming love, happy times.
